The Thinking Behind Paleo Toothpaste

As the Paleo Diet recruits more followers and outputs healthier, happier people, it’s not a stretch that many have begun to apply those principals to the products we use in and around our mouths; namely toothpaste.

Paleo Toothpaste derives its ideas directly from the principals in the Paleo diet. The paleo diet encourages unprocessed foods, low carbohydrates and a moderate amount of protein derived from locally raised meat as well as a healthy amount of vegetables while cutting back on fruits. The diet makes a good point in talking about the seeming failure of chemical toothpaste.  As a society we see dentists more often ad use chemical laden products in our mouths but tooth decay and gum disease are still rampant throughout our culture.  How can this be?

Arguments are made that the very products advertised to prevent deteriorating conditions of the mouth may be masking the advance of those very conditions by reducing the symptoms, rather than addressing the actual cause of the problem. In other words, a toothpaste advertised to reduce tooth sensitivity may actually be allowing the problem to continue, denying your mouth the warning signals that there is still a problem occurring.

An even more compelling argument poses the idea that chemicals in conventional mouthwash and toothpaste help kill bacteria but block the tooth’s ability to repair enamel, thus allowing prolonged exposure to naturally occurring bacteria with weakened enamel. Those savvy in the way of health foods are already aware of the amazing antibacterial and antifungal properties in coconut oil.

Paleo tooth paste combines the amazing properties in coconut oil with the whitening and deodorizing power of baking soda (Sodium Bicarbonate).Tooth and Gums Paste is a great pre-made toothpaste already using the principals of Paleo Toothpaste and is one of the few brands offering a healthy alternative to chemical oral products.  If you like the idea of Paleo Toothpaste but don’t want to experiment with recipes on your own, try Tooth and Gums Paste as an alternative!
